Offshore energy company: high-pressure system with a stainless steel pump head for use with salt water

After years of loyal service, an existing high-pressure system was due for replacement. The requirements in terms of performance, safety and availability were established in close consultation. As the system is fed with salt water, the emphasis was on corrosion resistance, without compromising on safety and compliance.

The collaboration

  • Existing partnership with Waterkracht for industrial high-pressure solutions.
  • Replacement of existing installation based on a proven configuration.

Our client

About the client

The client is an internationally active energy company that manages installations in the offshore industry. Safety, reliability and compliance with applicable laws and regulations are central to the organisation. For critical installations, proven technologies are used that can be deployed over the long term under harsh conditions.

The challenge

The client was looking for a high-pressure system that:

  • is suitable for installation in an offshore-certified and approved frame;
  • is resistant to long-term use with salt water thanks to the use of a stainless steel pump head and stainless steel water-contacting parts;
  • meets additional safety requirements for diesel-driven installations;
  • offers the same functionality and familiar operation as the existing installation;
  • can be replaced within a planned maintenance window with minimal downtime.

Our approach

Assessing the practical situation

Waterkracht first drew up a conceptual layout in which all components could be positioned logically. The starting point was a one-to-one replacement, so that operators would immediately be familiar with the new installation.

Engineering and frame design

An offshore-certified frame was then designed and built, in which all components are optimally integrated.

The installation included, amongst other things:

  • a stainless steel pump head;
  • stainless steel water-cooled components;
  • a safety system for diesel engines;
  • a proven pump and drive configuration that is compatible with the existing application.

During the engineering phase, additional requirements were taken into account, including:

  • integrated storage options;
  • a drip tray for safe and organised working.

Testing and inspection

The entire installation was tested and inspected prior to handover. Following approval, the installation was authorised for use without any further modifications.

Result

The replacement went according to plan and without any technical complications. The new system is compatible with existing operating procedures, meets the applicable safety requirements and is ready for immediate use in the offshore environment.

The benefits

  • A proven configuration ensures predictable commissioning.
  • The offshore version meets the relevant safety and certification requirements.
  • Corrosion-resistant materials minimise wear and maintenance when used with salt water.
  • Practical features such as integrated storage space and a drip tray improve day-to-day use and maintenance.
  • Thanks to the collaboration between the client, the engineering partner and Waterkracht, the project was completed efficiently and within the planned timeframe.
