Marcella: Smart, customized bus installation for a cleaner Amsterdam

Marcella is further expanding its capacity with two new Boiling Hot Water units one in a special adapted bus. The pressure on the company is high – they work right into the weekend to keep the streets clean. Thanks to close cooperation with Waterkracht, Marcella now has a fully customized cleaning solution, suitable for cleaning street furniture in busy urban areas.

Marcella de Schoonmaakspecialist B.V. has been a household name in Weesp and the surrounding area for decades. Through several subsidiaries, Marcella offers a wide range of cleaning services: from regular cleaning to specialist graffiti and facade cleaning. An important specialism is the cleaning of street furniture, including graffiti and underground waste containers.

Marcella works on a contract basis for various municipalities to keep public spaces clean and presentable. In busy areas such as Amsterdam, speed, accessibility, and reliability are essential—and that places high demands on the equipment used.

The challenges

Marcella's existing buses were due for replacement. At the same time, there was a growing need for extra capacity: the team receives new cleaning requests every day and even works on Sundays to keep up with demand.

The challenge was twofold:

  • Integrate new boiling hot water installations into compact buses

  • Adapt the bus installation so that it works optimally in Amsterdam city traffic

A standard solution was not sufficient. The desired setup—with controls on the side instead of the rear—required customization.

Our approach

Mapping out the practicalities
Because Marcella was already familiar with our Boiling Hot Water Technology, the focus was on the construction and ease of use of the installation. Their wish: a spray device that can be operated via the right-hand door, ideal for working on the street side in busy urban areas.

Customized installation
Waterkracht adapted the installation design to Marcella's specific wishes:

  • Operation via the side door instead of the rear

  • Special mounting of the lance gun on the partition (instead of on the floor)

  • Maximum utilization of the cargo space, with clear placement of components

The adjustment of the lance set was even carried out shortly before delivery.

Coordination down to the last detail
Thanks to close coordination between Marcella, Waterkracht, and the bodybuilder involved, the bus was prepared down to the last detail. This meant that the system was delivered exactly as the customer had envisioned it.

Results

Marcella now has two new buses driving around Amsterdam, fully equipped to clean street furniture efficiently and safely.
